What It Takes To Become Hong Kong’s Best Tailor

Hong Kong has over 400 registered tailors, the oldest of which dates back to 1896. The heritage can be felt in the alleys and back streets of the city to this day, with a new generation of tailors standing on the shoulders of giants to continue the sartorial traditions of their forebears.

We are delighted to be awarded Hong Kong's Best Tailor

Manesh Manolo Bespoke Couturier is one such establishment. Founder Manesh Chellaram’s heritage can be traced back to 1860, with his ancestors already establishing themselves as a powerhouse of fabric trading across Asia. A newspaper clipping in Gibraltar’s local newspaper, El Capense, dated Tuesday, May 15, 1894, illustrates that the company, just 34 years after being founded, established offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai where they exported oriental arts and crafts from India, China and Malta to their overseas branches.

In 2007, after much demand from friends asking Manesh where he got his wardrobe made, he decided to go into business full-time making fine apparel from scratch, and Manesh Manolo Bespoke Couturier was born. Over the years, the couturier’s reputation has spread, and now they can proudly say they have made outfits for legends at the top of their fields, including Daniel Boulud, George Foreman, DeMarcus Cousins, Dwight Howard, Mariano Riviera and Nate Diaz.

It’s not just top sports people that can attest to the quality and workmanship of a Manesh Manolo bespoke suit, as they recently won the prestigious Sassy Hong Kong Reader’s Award for Hong Kong’s Best Tailor–no mean feat against 400 other tailors.

So it seems all you need to win a prestigious award is 300 years of experience and a passion for perfection!
